New Nissan wheel stud

This tutorial will walk you through the process of replacing your wheels studs. This is useful if you ever break one or if you want to upgrade to aftermarket studs. The procedure is fairly straight forward so if you ever need to do this on your Altima Coupe, have no fear. Just follow this DIY guide and all will be well.

Tools and Materials

You cant do this bare handed so lets look at what tools this is going to take.

  • Lug nut socket (size varies and depends on your lug nuts of choice)
  • Socket wrench (should be obvious, but it is listed anyways)
  • Phillips Screw Driver
  • Hammer
  • Various wrenches (I forget the exact sizes)
  • New stud(s)

The Procedure

  1. Remove Wheel
  2. Remove Brake Caliper
  3. Remove Brake Rotor
  4. Remove spring screws (2) holding drum brake in place
  5. Push drum brake assembly to one side
  6. Spin axle to align the damaged wheel stud so it clears the now moved brake assembly
  7. Hammer out the broke stud
  8. Insert new stud from behind and pull into the hub.
  9. Place a few washers over the stud along with the Lug Nut. Begin tightening it until the stud pulls all the way into place.
  10. Repeat for other studs
  11. Push drum brake assembly back into place
  12. Insert the spring screws and tighten
  13. Install Brake Rotor
  14. Install Brake Caliper
  15. Torque everything
  16. Install Wheel
